The Concrete Garden
Islington, N1, UK
Brimming with innovative design, this modest garden in Central London was designed to be a space for hosting parties and perfectly complementing the sleek concrete design of the interior.
Budget: £30-40k
Design Fee: No upfront fee, forming part of the overall build contract.
Facing North, with mature trees dominating the landscape, this garden was designed to embrace its unique location. Instead of relying on the aesthetic quality of concrete forms, which can look stark and uninviting, this garden is designed to be warm and inviting, by softening the concrete with the use of outdoor textiles, wood, and Corten steel in the form of planters, outdoor kitchen doors and tree hangings. Designer chairs will inject a touch of personality.
Making the most of the space, this garden was designed to be a true outdoor living space, with the addition of an idyllic escape from city life in the form of hydrogen-powered living flames and magical Corten steel lanterns hanging from the trees.
The patio will transition seamlessly into a polished concrete surface with expansion lines that align with the natural lines of the glazing, while Phillips Hue LED lighting strips and strategically placed uplighters will help the space to be enjoyed at night. A bespoke outdoor kitchen was included at the request of the client, and a select few tropical plants were chosen to bring a touch of the tropical theme they desired to an otherwise dark spot.
Scheduled for early Summer 2023, project managed by Bedmal.
