Fairy Memorial Garden
Primary School, Hertfordshire, UK
The tranquil and enchanting Fairy Garden in memory of a former student was designed and built by Bedmal for a Primary School in Hertfordshire. The brief was to create a peaceful space for the students and staff to relax and read, in a dark and uninviting spot with a limited budget.
Budget: UNDISCLOSED
Design Fee: No upfront fee, forming part of the overall build contract
We approached the design by embracing the surrounding nature and using trees to enhance the theme. To add intrigue and sensory elements, we focused on a few stand-out features and decorated the garden with organic materials.
A custom rainbow archway, made from UNISTRUT and powder-coated in custom RAL colours, was designed as the entrance to the garden. The rainbow was built with longevity in mind and will provide a sense of mystery and fantasy to the space.
The winding Breedon Gravel path, resembling a tree of life, leads to a majestic oak tree surrounded by a willow seat and organic wild flower meadow. The oak tree will be adorned with handcrafted "jewellery" made from recycled glass and UK grown willow, and a few carefully selected ornaments within the willow seat will add color. Toadstools will provide additional seating options, and a Wisteria tree in a sunny spot will add magic over time.
The garden is surrounded by a white picket fence and features a simple sensory planting scheme. The soft and hard landscaping build is scheduled for early Summer 2023 by Bedmal.
